- Many advanced nuclear reactors are powered by high-assay, low-enriched uranium (HALEU).
- Russia is the largest producer of HALEU and, because of to the war in Ukraine, the HALEU supply chain has been disrupted.
- The Nuclear Fuel Security Act aims to increase America’s supply of HALEU by establishing a domestic source which will power next-generation technologies and ease burdens to drive innovation.
“The legislation also directs all options to be explored with countries that are allies or partners of the United States, to expand nuclear materials available to the U.S.”
