Bipartisan legislation would increase US uranium production to promote nuclear energy

Stephen Singer of UtilityDive reports on bipartisan legislation that would bolster advanced nuclear energy.

  • Many advanced nuclear reactors are powered by high-assay, low-enriched uranium (HALEU).
  • Russia is the largest producer of HALEU and, because of to the war in Ukraine, the HALEU supply chain has been disrupted.
  • The Nuclear Fuel Security Act aims to increase America’s supply of HALEU by establishing a domestic source which will power next-generation technologies and ease burdens to drive innovation.
