Bill Gates Pledges $1.5 Billion for Infrastructure Bill’s New Climate Projects

Timothy Puko of The Wall Street Journal writes that Bill Gates has pledged $1.5 billion for new climate projects.

The C3 Take
  • If the bipartisan infrastructure deal is passed, Bill Gates will give $1.5 billion to accelerate the development of carbon-reducing technologies.
  • In addition to Gates’ commitments, other members of the private sector have pledged to spur and coordinate investments in clean technologies such as electric vehicles and EV charging stations.
  • The private sector is leading the way in advancing durable solutions to climate change.

“Mr. Gates, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, said a fund run by his Breakthrough Energy Ventures could spend the money over three years on projects aimed at slowing the greenhouse-gas emissions that cause climate change. The Breakthrough projects, which would have to compete with other applicants for the funds, could include emissions-free fuel for planes and technology to suck carbon-dioxide out of the air.”
