Catherine Clifford reports for CNBC that TerraPower has raised $750 million.
- The latest funding round was led by Mr. Gates and SK Innovations and will be used to advance nuclear energy technologies.
- TerraPower is currently working to bring its next-gen molten salt reactor online at a retired coal plant in Wyoming.
- These reactors will be smaller than current nuclear reactors and will produce far less waste.
- The company will also develop radioactive cancer medication with the plant’s isotopes.
“TerraPower also wants to commercialize a kind of molten salt reactor technology that could be used to provide carbon-free energy to heavy industrial operations, like water treatment plants, chemical processors and heavy industrial users. And the company is building the Traveling Wave Reactor, which it says will use mined uranium 30 times more efficiently and greatly reduces nuclear waste.”
