Ellen R. Wald writes in The Hill that President Biden’s Paris Agreement commitments will be tough on Americans and ineffective in reducing emissions.
- The emission reduction goals of the Biden administration would put significant strain on America’s energy and transportation sector while failing to meaningfully reduce emissions.
- The issue of climate change is global and without progress from emitters such as China and India, emissions will continue to rise.
- Instead of imposing harsh, anti-growth mandates on America and developing nations, the Biden administration should look to unleash the power of free markets to curb emissions.
“These goals cannot possibly be met without major sacrifices for Americans. Some might argue that sacrifices should be made to help the climate. However, this NDC still would make no noticeable impact on global GHG emissions because the real problem comes from countries such as China, Russia and India.”
