At Earth Day Climate Summit, Biden Pushes for Sharp Cut to Greenhouse-Gas Emissions

Timothy Puko and Andrew Restuccia report on The Wall Street Journal that President Biden has called for sharp emissions reductions targets.

The C3 Take
  • President Biden has called for the United States to reduce our emissions by 50-52% (based off of 2005 levels) by 2030.
  • Since 2000, the United States has reduced our energy emissions faster than any other country due to market forces and the fracking revolution.
  • If we want to reduce emissions we should look to the private sector, not government mandates. As we have proven, economic freedom is the best way in which we can have a healthier planet.

“Mr. Biden used the summit to unveil a new target that calls for U.S. emissions to be 50% to 52% lower in 2030 than levels in 2005, a common baseline for such climate targets.”
