America needs the nuclear option to keep our homes warm – and to fight climate change

Kevin D. Williamson writes about the importance of nuclear power in USA Today.

The C3 Take
  • America has begun to export its nuclear power technology to allies overseas while allowing its own nuclear energy fleet to dwindle.
  • While we should be helping our allies around the world, the United States should begin to prioritize domestic nuclear power projects.
  • Nuclear power is our largest source of carbon-free energy and has a pivotal role in reducing emissions and increasing energy security.
  • America can bolster the nuclear power industry by modernizing regulations and investing in next generation technologies.

“Nuclear power is not going to replace diesel, gasoline, or bunker fuel in the foreseeable future, and so it is not going to eliminate the pollution or the greenhouse-gas emissions related to transportation, which is a big piece of the climate picture. What nuclear can do is create affordable, stable electricity in a way that radically reduces the emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases associated with climate change.”
