- Amazon is expanding its renewable energy portfolio with 18 new solar projects in the UK, Germany, Finland, Spain, Italy, and the United States.
- Amazon is the world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable energy and will likely be able to power all of its operations with clean energy by 2025, five years ahead of its original target of 2030.
- The private sector is voluntarily reducing emissions and embracing clean technologies.
Eight of the 18 new projects are in the United States, totaling more than 1 GW of utility-scale solar energy. These include Amazon’s first solar projects in Arizona and Georgia and additional projects in Ohio, Texas, and Virginia. The 300-megawatt (MW) Arizona solar project is paired with 150-MW battery energy storage, enabling the company to align solar generation with periods of the greatest demand, even when the sun is not shining.”
