Wildfire activity across the U.S. has pushed the nation to Preparedness Level 4, with 37,878 fires already recorded as of July 15—nearly double last year’s count by the same date. Over 1 million acres are actively burning, and suppression resources are being stretched as weather, drought, and dry fuels create ideal conditions for ignition and spread.
As firefighting efforts intensify, technology is emerging as a vital tool, supporting everything from real-time fire detection and aerial suppression to predictive analytics and post-burn recovery.
“The wildfire season is now 105 days longer and hosts significantly more large fires than it did a few decades ago,” said a Climate Central researcher in a 2025 wildfire impact review. “Technology is no longer optional—it’s core to response.”
