Benoît Morenne of The Wall Street Journal reports on a billionaire’s push to produce greener fossil fuels.
- Danny Rice is the CEO of NET Power, a company that is looking to pull CO2 out of the natural gas production process.
- The technology works by burning natural gas and oxygen to produce electricity and essentially capturing and sequestering the byproduct CO2 before it can reach the atmosphere.
- NET Power is demonstrating its carbon-free natural gas at a demonstration plant near Houston and is currently building a commercial power plant that it plans to bring online in 2027.
“NET Power’s patented process consists of burning natural gas along with oxygen to create heat and a mixture of pure CO2 and water that spins a turbine and creates power. Some of the CO2 is reused in the system and the rest is sequestered underground—which means that a plant using the technology will emit virtually no CO2, according to the company.”
