Coco Liu of Bloomberg reports on a startup that is making fuel from CO2 and water.
- California-based Infinium is a startup that is bringing e-fuel to fossil fuel-dependent Corpus Christi.
- The company makes its product by using electrolyzers to break down water into hydrogen and oxygen (the process is powered by nearby solar and wind production).
- The hydrogen is then mixed with captured CO2 from local refineries to create synthetic fuel with the same chemical properties of fossil fuels.
- Infinium has been one of the only companies to create e-fuel at an industrial level and could play a major role in lowering emissions in the transportation sector.
“On any given day, Infinium produces nearly 8,300 liters of what’s known in the industry as electrofuel or e-fuel and distributes it to customers across the US. A slogan on the company’s trucks reads: ‘Clean fuels made from renewable energy and carbon dioxide.'”
