Emily Domenech and Danielle Butcher Franz write in The Hill about environmentalist efforts to stall climate progress.
- The Permitting Reform Act of 2024 includes several reforms to speed up the deployment of renewables, transmission lines, and forest management activities.
- Despite the bill’s benefits, environmental activists are pressuring lawmakers to not pass the legislation for fears that modernizing permitting will hurt the environment.
- America’s permitting system is outdated and onerous and delays the buildout of clean, reliable energy generation.
- Modernizing regulations will not hurt the environment but it will make it easier to reduce emissions and lower costs for consumers.
“Those who advocate for emissions reductions must understand that these goals will not be met by simply opposing everything. Clean energy deployment and active forest management – both crucial climate solutions – will not fall out of the sky without changes to the laws that only stop development. Environmentalists should work to earn community support for clean energy where it could be most effective, rather than pursuing litigation that is doomed to fail.”
