Phil Rossetti writes in RealClearEnergy that Joe Biden is at least partially to blame for high gas prices.
- The average national gas price is hovering around $3.60, and given the election season, political parties are finger pointing and blaming the other side for these prices.
- While some of the rise in gas prices over the last four years is not the administration’s fault (global pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine), Biden is partially to blame.
- His policies to restrict federal drilling, reduce critical infrastructure, and force a transition to EVs have hurt investment in the sector which has led to higher prices.
- Whoever the next president is, they should recognize the economic and environmental advantages of American gas production and look for ways to unleash private sector innovation in the space.
“Like it or not, Biden was the one steering energy policy during a time of elevated energy costs across the board. While he can’t be blamed for things outside of his control, we can certainly blame him for failing to act, and Democrats are likely to feel the impact of their energy and economic policies at the polls this November.”
