- Graphyte is a carbon removal startup that takes unwanted biomass and compresses it to lock in CO2 to prevent it from entering the atmosphere.
- The company is expecting to open the world’s largest carbon removal plant in the world later this week in Arkansas where it plans to remove 15,000 metric tons of CO2 annually before amping production up to 25,000 metric tons in 2025.
- Graphyte’s solution is available for $100/metric ton of carbon dioxide removed which makes it one of the most cost-competitive carbon removal solutions available on the market.
“The company’s Loblolly facility — named after the pine tree species grown in the area — intends to start manufacturing the shoe-box-sized blocks no later than Friday and gradually scale up production, CEO Barclay Rogers told E&E News.”
