- A recall election in rural Michigan threw out five Republicans who supported the construction of a multi-billion dollar battery parts plant tied to a Chinese company.
- While the plant would have provided more than 2,000 jobs to the area, the voters made it clear that they do not want to support China.
- As the U.S. looks to grow its clean energy portfolio it should refrain from industrial and protectionist policies (like China’s) and instead turn to open markets, competition, and free trade with allies.
“Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) called the election result a ‘blip’ in the state, but said it underscores the need to compete against China in the race to dominate the energy technologies of the future.”
