Lisa Stiffler of GeekWire reports that Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena is the first arena to receive a Zero Carbon certification.
- Owned by Amazon and home to the Seattle Kraken, the Climate Pledge Arena runs on rooftop solar power and wind energy sourced from the Puget Sound Energy’s Lower Snake River wind farm.
- The facility also collects rainwater from its roof to make ice for hockey games.
- Amazon’s leadership shows that private sector innovation can drive climate progress.
“The 800,000-square-foot arena has a maximum capacity of 18,100 attendees and is the home of Seattle’s Kraken NHL team and a concert venue. The facility replaced the KeyArena and opened in October 2021. Amazon paid for its naming rights.”
