A new nuclear reactor in the U.S. starts up. It’s the first in nearly seven years

Catherine Clifford writes in CNBC about the first nuclear reactor to start up in seven years.

  • Vogtle Units 3 and 4 are the first new nuclear reactors to be built in the U.S. in decades.
  • Unit 3, which is expected to produce power in May or June, has started splitting atoms and generating heat.
  • This is the first reactor to do so in seven years when the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Watts Bar Unit 2 started splitting atoms in 2016.
  • Nuclear power is safe, clean, and reliable.
