Biden rollback of Trump-era permitting reforms will harm his own clean energy agenda

Alex Fitzsimmons writes in The Washington Examiner about Biden’s rollback of Trump-era permitting reforms.

The C3 Take
  • President Biden recently rolled back Trump-era reforms to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Trump’s reforms improved the efficiency of NEPA’s permitting and review process in order to decrease completion times for key energy and infrastructure projects.
  • Biden’s rollback of these reforms will increase costs, hamstring clean energy development, and hurt his own environmental agenda.
  • To rapidly increase our share of low carbon fuels, policymakers must reform regulations such as NEPA to allow America to build cleaner faster.

“Modernized permitting is a key pillar of any climate policy. It can be done while upholding existing environmental protections with robust public participation. The key is allowing U.S. entrepreneurs to build clean energy faster.”
