Want Green Energy? Cut Red Tape

Bloomberg’s Editors write in The Washington Post on the importance of reducing regulations.

The C3 Take
  • A National Academies of Science report has found that if the U.S. wants to reach net-zero by 2050, we will need to double our share of clean energy generation.
  • Regulations such as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), while well intentioned, are one of the largest roadblocks to building clean energy and infrastructure projects.
  • Permitting and review under NEPA takes an average of 4.5 years to complete which halts project build outs, increases costs, and wastes taxpayer dollars.
  • To increase our supply of clean energy, we must reform regulations such as NEPA to become more efficient and transparent.

“A zero-carbon economy will not materialize by magic. It will take immense effort, foresight and fresh thinking. A good place to start is this: When it comes to green energy, red tape is the enemy.”
