
- The U.S. is trying to quadruple nuclear capacity to 400 GW by 2050, with the near-term push focused on restarting plants and squeezing more power out of the existing fleet. Even small upgrades could add gigawatts quickly and at a fraction of the cost of building new reactors.
- But the bottlenecks are real, especially fuel supply, where the U.S. still depends heavily on foreign enrichment and lacks domestic capacity for advanced fuels. At the same time, demand is ramping fast, putting even more pressure on the system to scale quickly.
