Deep Atomic eyes AI nuclear hubs

The C3 Take
  • Deep Atomic is leading a consortium to pair small modular nuclear reactors with AI data centers, proposing a campus at Idaho National Laboratory that would eventually run on its 60-megawatt MK60 light-water SMR. The design aims to deliver both electricity and direct liquid cooling for high-density AI workloads, allowing facilities to operate largely independent of the main grid and reduce strain on local power systems.

• The group, which includes major construction and data center firms, is targeting series manufacturing by 2029 and plans to begin operations at INL using existing grid and renewable power while pursuing Nuclear Regulatory Commission certification. The pitch reflects a broader push to integrate advanced nuclear energy directly into AI infrastructure, combining low-carbon baseload generation with purpose-built computing campuses.
